Klose made his World Cup debut in 2002 and won the Silver Shoe by scoring 5 goals in the tournament. Germany lost to Brazil in the final, and Klose had to be contented with a Silver medal.
He then played very well in the 2006 WC held in Germany and scored 5 goals to win the Golden Shoe. However, Germany lost to Italy in the semifinal and beat Portugal to win the Bronze medal.
Germany again won the Bronze medal in the 2010 World Cup after having lost to Spain in the semifinal. They beat Uruguay in the 3rd/4th place playoff. Klose again scored 4 goals in the tournament.
However, he had the last laugh, as Germany won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, beating Argentina in the final. Klose surpassed Ronaldo's goal-scoring record by scoring 2 goals in that World Cup, and also became the 3rd player to win each of the gold, silver and bronze medals in World Cup football. He also scored 71 goals in 137 caps for Germany.
