'Scholesy', as he was fondly called by his teammates and the club’s supporters, was also very down-to-earth and preferred to keep a low profile off the field. His exploits on the field, however, were enough to set him apart even among the luminaries of the great United team of the 1990s and 2000s. Scholes played in 718 matches for United and scored 155 goals. He also provided numerous assists to the likes of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. He hung up his boots in 2013 and is pursuing a media career these days.
Honorable mention: Lionel Messi (9 La Liga titles with FC Barcelona)
