2005 - Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, Stubbornness, Failure - 2012

I, as an Arsenal fan, have seen many promises made by our professor, Mr Wenger. He promises to deliver every season, rues missed chances, makes bad decisions and return’s home empty handed. I feel excited, very excited when I see players like Chamberlain, Jenkinson and Coquelin in the line ups but be assured, after three-four seasons they will leave us. Nasri, Fabregas and Clichy did the same and to be very honest, now when I see our team, the results and their position in the league; I do not blame them for joining high profile, trophy-winning clubs.

Sometimes, I want to ask Wenger- how he motivates a player like RVP to stay at Arsenal. What promises will he be making this year so that RVP signs a contract extension? I must say that if Persie signs another contract, he is a pretty optimistic footballer and trust’s Arsene blindly. Arsene Wenger needs to be a lot more creative and imaginative to make him believe that next year, we will win something with the same crop of ‘next generation star’ footballers.

The truth is, until Wenger leaves Arsenal or changes his philosophy of financial fair play and the self-imposed strict wage structure; we will win nothing. His thinking of molding younger players and then winning is a thing of the past. Nobody can wait for years before things start happening. As soon as a player develops, oil fueled clubs are waiting to grab them and the defined wage structure and fee limits can’t be followed religiously when everyone around you is spending big.

Wenger says he has to repay the loan that Arsenal has taken to build the new stadium – the Emirates. Good to see he cares so much about the club and their finances. But, Mr Wenger, please explain to us when will you start caring for the fans? You would not be able to pay the loan ever if we stop coming to watch our Red and White soldiers playing the beautiful game. We still believe in you; please do not break out trust. Do something substantial or you will lose our faith.
