In the aftermath of Colombia’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a 25-year-old woman lost her life after a fired stray bullet hit her during the celebrations of the country’s triumph. Officials initially stated that the bullet which was meant to be fired in the air as a sign of victory, accidentally killed the women who was a resident of Bogota.

But the latest news after the police investigation revealed that the gunmen aimed to kill the women. Ricardo Bonilla, who is the acting mayor of Bogota, had this to say while talking to the press.

‘‘A hitman on a motorcycle opened fire on three people.’’

He described it as ‘‘the only deadly case’’ in the post-game celebrations.

But the numbers say otherwise as 5 people were injured and 274 fights broke out in the post-match celebrations. Police have said that they will be unveiling the official figure of game-related accidents and violent incidents on Sunday.

Earlier, violence broke out in Colombia after they beat Greece on June 14. Police reported nine people dead, 150 vehicle accidents and 3,000 fights.

Elsewhere, a 69-year-old Brazilian fan died of heart failure while watching his country’s World Cup penalty shootout win over Chile. The diabetic fan watched the tense encounter, which Brazil won on penalties after the sides were held to a 1-1 scoreline after extra time.

The paper added local health officials had to treat some 100 people during the game, including a 50-year-old woman for a heart problem during the penalties and a young man whose nose was fractured in a fight.
