At the executive meeting held on Tuesday, the governing body decided that the 2015 edition of the SAFF tournament would be held in India.
Even though the city that would host the tournament has not been decided yet, WSG, which is the commercial partner of SAFF, has asked that the tournament should be held in India every alternate edition.
“India will host the 2015 SAFF Cup but the venue will be decided later. The fight is in between Delhi and Kerala to host the tournament,” pronounced Alberto Colaco, the general secretary of SAFF.
Along with this announcement has come the revelation that there will be a new tournament added, SAFF Club Cup Championship, which is scheduled to start from next year.
“We have planned a new tournament — SAFF Club Cup Championship — from next year. The proposed date is August 2014 but it is not final. It will depend on our sponsors WSG who will respond in two months time,” Colaco said.
“The tournament will be held in one venue for about two weeks, days at a stretch between eight club champions of SAFF countries,” he added.
“We are also planning a new Under-19 SAFF Championship for boys,” Colaco informed.
Also, the women’s SAFF Cup had been awarded to Pakistan.
