Today marks the 28th anniversary of the Heysel disaster. In 1985, Liverpool faced Juventus in the European Cup Final at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels. 39 football fans lost their lives after a wall collapsed in the poorly maintained stadium as a result of fans fighting.
It is a black mark on Liverpool’s history and the club has made efforts to rebuild its relationship with Juventus ever since. A minority certainly doesn’t represent a majority and I am sure you are all with me in remembering the 39 fans who lost their lives 28 years ago today; may they never walk alone.
