It may sound flippant, but It would be very easy to name not just three, but rather perhaps six or seven Chelsea players who could give the Hammers a hiding during their forthcoming trip to Stamford Bridge. Since Jose Mourinho’s return, the Pensioners have not only seen many of their key players shine, but one or two recent additions simply enforce the belief that once the ‘Special One’ took over the title was already on its way to West London.
With such a wealth of talent, it’s almost difficult to pick out three players Sam Allardyce should be most wary of when he takes his side to Stamford Bridge, but here’s arguably Chelsea’s most dangerous men on current form.
Oscar
Okay, so I get zero points for originality but not mentioning the Brazilian when naming Chelsea’s most threatening is akin to not mentioning Juan Mata when talking about recent departures from the club. Mourinho has decided to build his team around the youthful looking playmaker, and who can blame him? Oscar has been a revelation this season and the number of chances he creates suggests that West Ham are in for a long night.
Remember the furore he caused when he teased us all on twitter as to who his next club was going to be? And, remember how everyone outside West London wanted him to fail? Well, now we can all remember how disappointed we are as the young Belgian has more than lived up to the hype with a phenomenal season that’s bordering on ridiculous. It’s so good that even though Oscar is something of a revelation with the amount of chances he’s created, Hazard has actually more than doubled it, managing also to grab nine league goals along the way.
Samuel Eto’o
We all thought Jose Mourinho had lost the plot when he loaned out the prolificRomelu Lukaku and brought in a 32 year-old who’d never kicked a ball in the Premier League. The problem with that theory is the 32 year-old Mourinho bought in happened to be one of the greatest strikers of the modern era, a man with more Champions League winners medals than most players have actual medals.
Eto’o may have taken a little while to truly find his feet, but bagging a hat-trick against the champions recently simply underlined why, as per usual, Mourinho was right and many of us mere mortals were wrong. Although its safe to say United’s defence wasn’t truly at the races when Eto’o tore them apart, it’s also safe to assume the Hammers won’t be looking towards facing the Cameroon international with anything other than fear.
