Arjen Robben, one of the most successful wingers of all time, is about to leave Bayern Munich after having played for them for 10 seasons. Robben has been very successful for Bayern, and has won 1 UEFA Champions League and 7 Bundesliga titles for them. He has also scored 143 goals in 305 matches for them.
Most of the defenders dread the sight of Robben cutting in from the right wing and taking a shot at their goal from the edge of the penalty box. Robben is extremely fast and his quick dribbling is usually very difficult to handle. Moreover, he also has great positional awareness and combines very well with the strikers to destroy any defence in the world.
In spite of being 35 years old, Robben can still be an asset to any team in the world.
However, he has been plagued by injury problems since the beginning of this season and has played in only 15 matches so far. Moreover, young Serge Gnabry has impressed as a right-winger for Bayern this season.
Therefore, Robben is likely to leave the club and here are 3 of his probable destinations:
1. Inter Milan:
Robben has been linked to Inter already and might be seen playing for the Nerazzurri soon. Inter already have a promising young player like Matteo Politano playing for them on the right flank, but would be further enriched by Robben’s inclusion. Politano has been really good for Inter this season, but does not have Robben’s experience.
Inter also have the experienced Ivan Perisic playing on the left flank and he could combine very well with Robben to trouble the opposition full-backs. Both Perisic and Robben are fast, strong and agile. Moreover, Inter also have a clinical striker in the form of Mauro Icardi, who could benefit very much from Robben’s inclusion to the team.
Inter are currently at the 3rd position in the Serie A table. They have also failed to qualify for the Round of 16 in the Champions League and their coach Luciano Spaletti is under some pressure. Therefore, Robben’s signing could very well be a blessing for them.
2. Manchester United:
United have lacked a proper right-winger for quite a while now and could be bolstered by Robben’s quality and experience. Jesse Lingard has played on the right flank for United in some matches this season, but he is not a winger and prefers to play in central midfield. Moreover, United’s relatively inexperienced attack comprising of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku could also learn a lot by playing alongside Robben.
United have made a great start under their new coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by winning 5 consecutive matches. They have also been playing a very attractive brand of football under their new manager.
Robben could be a very valuable addition to their line-up and might help them perform even better. He might also like to play in a big club like United before hanging up his boots. Therefore, Old Trafford could very well be one of his preferred destinations.
3. Arsenal:
Arsenal are yet another club that needs a quality winger in their line-up. They are struggling with 41 points from 21 matches in the Premier League and currently at the 5th position in the league table.
Henrik Mkhitaryan has struggled on the right flank for them as he is not a proper winger. Players like Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang have also played on the right flank at times, but have failed to make much of an impact. Therefore, Arsenal can actually think of going for Robben.
Moreover, Arsenal are also unsure about Mesut Ozil’s future at the Emirates and would be looking for a potential replacement for the German midfielder. Robben could think of going to Arsenal as he has played for Chelsea, another London-based club, previously. Moreover, he would also find it easy to adjust to the high-tempo game of the Gunners.
