Solskjaer knows that the third place is up for grabs
United are currently 5th in the table, 2 points adrift of Arsenal at 4th and 3 points away from Tottenham at 3rd. While both 3rd and 4th position would appear attainable on paper, the reality is a little different.

United have home games against Manchester City and Chelsea next month, while they also play Wolves away and Watford at home. Other games include home ties against West Ham and Cardiff City and away games against Everton and Huddersfield.
Expecting United to win all games from now until the end of the season is a tough ask, so the Norwegian has to depend on the results of his opponents. This is where things look a little bleak.

Arsenal have a relatively easier run of games, where they face none of the top 6. Only 3 of their 8 opponents are currently in the top half of the table – Wolves, Watford and Leicester City, however, all three are away games for the Gunners.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have away games at Liverpool and Manchester City, so it could be trickier for Pochettino’s side. Chelsea could also steal a march on their rivals, as they are just a point away from United at 6th.
Now that his future is sorted, Solskjaer has to ensure United fight till the end for the coveted 4th spot.

Deepungsu holds a PG degree in Microbiology and an MBA degree in Total Quality Management. He has an extensive two-decade long writing experience, which includes a decade of sports blogging. His writing prowess has even led his work getting cited on the legendary Franz Beckenbauer's Wikipedia page.
Inspired by Diego Maradona, Deepungsu played as an attacking midfielder for his local club at subdivision level in his initial years and scored an important goal or two. However, his all-time favorite footballer is Lionel Messi, and evidently, he feels Argentina's glory in 2022 is his favorite FIFA World Cup moment for fulfilling his long-standing dream. He is also an ardent East Bengal fan.
Deepungsu has been a Manchester United supporter since the year 2000. Unsurprisingly, his favorite manager is Sir Alex Ferguson and the Scotsman helped him get through some of the toughest days of his life. Like the fiery Scot, Deepungsu also leaves no stone unturned when it comes to accuracy in articles and only relies on credible sources.
Despite believing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to create an iconic rivalry, Deepungsu reckons no one can match the longevity of Messi and Ronaldo. He spends his leisure time writing about life on his blog, reading books, and playing the guitar.
