The Blues have had a roller coaster season so far and are currently placed fourth on the table. The much talked about 'Sarriball' seems to be settling in, as has been clearly marked by Chelsea's massive increase in possession from prior seasons.
In an effort to challenge for the title next season, Chelsea have made their largest transfer in a while now by snapping up Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic for a whopping £58 millon.
The 20-year-old youngster has shown how he could be one for the future with his exploits in the Bundesliga, having scored 10 goals for Dortmund. He has featured 23 times for the United States, in which he has found the back of the net 9 times already!
Let us look at three major impacts that this stunning transfer could have for the club:
3. Sell/loan Callum Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi attracted attention in the pre-season fixtures, impressing by playing where the Blues fans are accustomed to seeing their beloved Eden Hazard. The left winger is a mere 18 years old and is already touted by Sarri himself to be one of Europe's finest. Much like the predicament of a lot of young stars in Chelsea's past, the youngster has found himself devoid of chances so far this season.
With giants Bayern Munich showing interest in the Chelsea academy product, it would not be too surprising to see Hudson-Odoi be loaned out or even sold with the arrival of Christian Pulisic. This news would not be taken well by the Chelsea youth squad and fans alike, owing to the fact that a lot of the Chelsea academy stars have not been given ample opportunities to don the blue.
2. Sarri is not looking for a conventional striker
Back in his days with Napoli, the Italian manager used a front three that had no strikers, and he had a lot of success. He used Lorenzo Insigne in advanced roles, a move which turned out to be alarmingly effective.
Sarri played Hazard up front for a few games, and Hazard managed to find his name on the scoresheet as well. However, Pedro's injury has seen the Italian manager move Hazard back to his original position.
With Hazard being known to prefer his position on the left flank, this could mean that Pulisic would find himself attack through the middle for the Blues. His pace combined with that of Hazard and Willian/Pedro could be a lot for the opposition to handle, and with none of them being a centre forward, they could freely move and interchange at the front, causing headaches for defenders. Due to the dearth of quality strikers in the market, this could be the route that Sarri is looking to take.
1. Bye Bye Hazard?
Could the signing of Pulisic be an indirect confirmation of every Chelsea fan's biggest fear? The Belgian has known to have a keen interest in joining the Real Madrid outfit, and has been linked heavily with a transfer out of Stamford Bridge for quite some time now.
Pulisic's transfer in could very well mean that Eden Hazard's transfer out is imminent and more or less inevitable. This would be an immense loss for the the Blues, who are presently overly reliant on the Belgian master-dribbler.
Chelsea would be yearning to not let go of the Belgian maestro, with whom the Blues would start among the favourites to lay claim to the Premier League trophy. However, losing Hazard would be devastating for the club, who would have to rebuild the team without a player who has been central to their club for a considerable period of time now.
