#3 Academy youngsters
It was a cause for concern when United fans were not able to see the club’s youngsters play for a large part of the tour. Fans were eager to see them, but they were denied by Mourinho’s frustration.
Promising youngsters like Tahith Chong, Gomes and Garner were given far too few minutes to impress. Most of the first team players were not present, this was a chance for them to showcase what they can do on a bigger stage.
It even got to a stage where he indirectly threw a shade at the board, pointing out that the likes of Sanchez and Mata were not supposed to be playing with inexperienced players.
United is a club that thrives on promoting youngsters - the Class of ’92 was a success story, and Rashford and Pereira are among those flying the flag at the moment, but Mourinho simply ignored the young bunch.
With claims that he doesn’t fancy youth players, this was a chance he failed to take with regards erasing that notion.
