#1 Toby Alderwiereld
United tried to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window. But unfortunately, they failed to finalise a deal with any of their top targets and ended up falling short in the position.
Strong, quick and an excellent reader of the game, Toby Alberweireld is among the best centre-backs in the Premier League right now and would be a dream signing for the Red Devils.
Alderwiereld joined Tottenham Hotspur from Atlético Madrid in 2015 and he is an ever-present figure in Spurs' starting line-up since then. He played all 38 league matches during his debut campaign at the club and helped them maintain the joint-best defensive record in England's top-flight.
The Belgium international's current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2019 and there are reports that he's currently refusing to renew his contract, potentially mulling over his options. If they cannot settle on an agreement, it's likely that Tottenham will reluctantly cash in on the player during the summer months as opposed to letting him leave on a free transfer next year.
