#1: Marcos Rojo
Snapped up following an excellent world cup campaign in 2014 where he was part of an Argentina team that went all the way up till the finals, Marcos Rojo was expected to lead a defence that had just lost three key figures in Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, and Patrice Evra. Equally comfortable on the left and in the center of defence, the £16m purchase of the then Sporting CP player was predicted to be a bargain in the long run.
Rojo’s United career has sadly not panned out the way it was supposed to. Injury-prone and erratic, the Argentine could never earn an extended run in the starting 11. Five seasons at the club have only yielded 73 PL appearances with last season hitting the Estudiantes youth product the hardest for, he managed to make only 5 PL appearances. He even managed to play more games for his national team when compared to his club.
A decent operator on the ball, Rojo is far too rash and erratic to be a part of Solskjaer’s revolution. With the club pursuing Harry Maguire and with youth prospect Axel Tuanzebe set to be awarded more minutes, all doors point towards Marcos Rojo departing Old Trafford. It is now a question of who’s willing to match United’s evaluation and Rojo’s wages.
