Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United just 6 months into his third season. While many pointed fingers at the manager, a large portion of the fan base were disgruntled by how players who weren't able to get the job done, cost the manager his job.
There are several factors which have contributed to United being 6th on the league table at the moment. The club's policy of scouting and signing players has been called into question, & the process of identifying targets that align with the manager at the club has largely been ignored as well.
The squad isn't good enough, as there are areas which need significant quality. Here are three players the Red Devils need to look at in order to boost their chances next season.
#1 Abdoulaye Doucouré
Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a rock in the middle of the park for Watford this season. He has all the quality needed to boss the midfield for United in the years to come. He is fast, strong, and has a keen eye to disrupt the opposition offence.
He also has the vision to pick out a pass as well, demonstrated by his 5 assists and 3 goals this season. With his best years ahead of him, and Ole looking to provide Paul Pogba the freedom to operate in the final third of the pitch, Abdoulaye could be just what the doctor ordered.
#2 Kalidou Koulibaly
Koulibaly has been liked with Manchester United for a long time now, and rightly so. This 'man mountain' has been the main stay at the heart of Napoli for the last 5 years. He is a physical freak in the air and on the ground.
He also has the ability to play out from the back, adding to the long list of his positives. With Phil Jones and Marco Rojo's futures looking increasingly in doubt. He could surely be the next Vidic if United manage to beat Real Madrid to his signature.
#3 Son Heung-min
The South Korean has been on fire for Spurs this season, with 8 goals and 6 assists already to his name. He has been one of the most consistent players for Spurs, and possesses the creativity, penetration, and goal scoring ability United has been lacking on the right side of the midfield.
It is no secret that United lack a true winger on the right, with both Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard being natural #10s.
Son could certainly make the position his own. Moreover, United have been craving for their next Asian superstar since Park Ji-sung left. If Mauricio Pochettino does sign for United this summer, it would not be beyond the realm of possibility for the South Korean to join him.
