Phil Jones impressive performances at Blackburn made Sir Alex sign him in 2011. He along with Smalling once regarded as the next Ferdinand-Vidic. He can also play in the right-back position and a central midfield role as well. Jones made his United debut in a 3-0 victory against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

But injuries seemed to have ruined the defender's career. The England International never seemed to get a continuous run of games for a more extended period. For any defender, it's challenging to keep up the form after continually returning from injuries, and that's what exactly the case with Jones.

The game against Spurs, he was at fault for their two goals and also picked up an injury later on. Zidane will surely bring a new center back like Varane with him at United which might see the Englishman leave Old Trafford.
