Manchester United announced on Tuesday that they have sacked former manager, José Mourinho, after two and a half years at the club. In that time frame, the Portuguese manager won a Europa League title, an EFL Cup title, and a Community Shield.
The first 2 seasons were fairly successful, winning 3 titles in the first and qualifying for back-to-back Champions Leagues in the second. His 3rd season in charge however got off to a rocky start, with early losses to Brighton and Tottenham setting off the dominoes. United now sit in 6th place, 19 points behind league leaders and rivals Liverpool.
Manchester United are currently looking towards appointing former player, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, on an interim basis, while Mourinho searches for a new adventure. Here are three possible clubs he could go to revive his managerial career.
#3 Bayern München
In his illustrious 18-year managerial career, José Mourinho has managed some of the best teams in the world, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and more recently - Manchester United.
One place the Portuguese manager has not managed in however, is Germany. Current Bundesliga champions, Bayern München, are currently 9 points adrift rivals Borussia Dortmund, and with calls for the sacking of Niko Kovac making the rounds, José Mourinho would be the perfect replacement.
Bayern already comprises an established and well-known starting eleven, and they definitely have the resources to back any future transfer plans!
#2 AS Monaco
Like Germany, France is another country Mourinho has not managed in. League leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, won't be relieving Tuchel off his duties anytime soon - due to their unbeaten league form - and Olympique Lyonnais have regained their lost run of form, as evident in their qualification to the Champions League round of 16.
Monaco on the other hand, has just been struggling this season. Currently 19th in the league and knocked out of all European competitions, the Monaco hierarchy would be looking to make changes in order to re-establish their presence in the league, and José Mourinho might just be their solution.
Monaco are already used to Portuguese management, with Leonardo Jardim steering them to a league title in 2017, and their flamboyant style of play strikes a glaring resemblance to Mourinho's 2004 Champions League winning Porto.
#1 Real Madrid
Speaking of Champions League winners, current title holders Real Madrid would greatly benefit from the services of their former manager. José managed to win the Copa del Rey and the LaLiga title in his three-year stint as Real's manager.
Madrid's league form has been something of a concern to the fans and board members, with the club sitting 5 points behind Barcelona, and the club still seems to be reeling from the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane, evident in their recent defeat to CSKA Moscow.
Although Santiago Solari has been steadying the ship, Jose's title-winning abilities and managerial skills could be what Real Madrid need right now.
