#3 Mateo Kovacic
Another player from the bench who made his mark was Mateo Kovacic. He came in just before Hazard, replacing Ross Barkley. He added a quick tempo to Chelsea’s passing game. He looked pretty energetic and was always anxious to receive the ball and create something.
There is going to be a serious competition for a starting spot in the Chelsea midfield throughout this season. Kovacic wouldn't want to be a bench warmer as at Real Madrid and Croatia’s national team. He would like to start each and every game that he can.
Barkley has a great rival in Kovacic. Both will have to give their best to get a starting XI spot.
