#1 Klopp has paid for showing too much loyalty in the past
The 51-year-old former Borussia Dortmund has worked wonders during his time at Anfield and has transformed the Reds from a mere top 8 club to possible title challengers. One factor, however, that might stall the Merseyside’s progression is Klopp’s loyalty to certain players; players who should have been ousted early on in Klopp’s tenure.
One player who springs to mind in this department is Alberto Moreno, who many argue cost Liverpool the chance to play Champions League football in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season at Anfield.
The Reds looked on course to play in Europe’s premier competition, as Daniel Sturridge’s curling effort put Liverpool in front. Two Moreno mistakes after the interval, however, left the Reds’ Champions League in tatters, as Sevilla spotted the weak link and targeted that area of the pitch.
Many expected that to be the Spaniard’s last game in a Liverpool shirt. Klopp, however, remained adamant that he should be the Reds’ first choice left back and would improve under his influence. That, unsurprisingly, did not happen, as James Milner became the main left-back for the 2016/17 season.
Similar assessments could also be made for the likes for Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren, although the Croat has vastly improved following the purchase of Virgil Van Dijk.
