Karius and Mignolet were struggling between the sticks and neither of them was doing anything to nail down the starting spot. And then Karius looked like he was getting a grip on the proceedings and Mignolet was left to languish on the bench.
Karius will need all the love he can get but it has to be said that it can only be fair from Liverpool's part to sign a new goalkeeper. In that case, Karius might need to perform in Cup matches to prove his mettle.
Let us also not forget the fact that Karius pulled off quite a few magnificent saves this season. His performances against Bournemouth, Everton and West Bromwich Albion inspired confidence. It's weirdly similar to David de Gea's story though the Spaniard was much younger when he was susceptible to such errors.
United kept their faith in De Gea and it was a gamble at the time. Liverpool should do the same with Karius.
