£30 Million Rooney: Roman sanctions move for Jose's main man?

After a day of drama at Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson announced he will retire at the end of the season, the rumour mill went into overdrive late last night. Shortly after Chelsea had drawn at home to Tottenham, reports surfaced that Wayne Rooney had asked for a transfer for a second time from Manchester United, and it had been rejected by Sir Alex Ferguson two weeks ago.

Now, this has come out of the blue, but is believed to have substance as a “United Spokesperson” confirmed that this had actually happened. With Ferguson moving upstairs and David Moyes being rumoured to be all set to take over, it’s believed that Rooney still remains unsettled, believing that it’s time to move on.

Now, if this is true and Rooney does want a fresh start, it is being reported that Jose Mourinho has pin pointed Rooney as his main target this summer if as expected, he makes an emotional return to Stamford Bridge for his second stint as manager.

Roman Abramovich is rumoured to have already sanctioned a £30m move for Rooney, and although there will be a change of manager at United, Rooney will be allowed to leave as Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to re-sign for the Champions in the summer.

How do you feel about Rooney as a player? How do you feel about him being touted as Jose Mourinho’s main transfer target as he looks to build a squad to attack the Premiership and lead the Chelsea challenge next term? Do you feel that Rooney is someone who is past it? Or could he bring that additional quality we need instead?
