The 29 year old Croatian defender had a year to savour. First, he joined Turkish giant Besiktas on a four and a half year deal from Dynamo Kyiv in January, he then won silver with the Croatian national team at the just concluded Russia 2018 World Cup.

He was a rock in their defence, and played an active role in their journey to the final - succumbing to a clinical French side gallantly. He has since had a number of suitors on his trail, a list that has Arsenal on it.

Arsenal are short on defenders, Mustafi remains the most senior defender in the team after it was confirmed that KoscIelny will be out for a long period with an injury. Vida will add guile and brawn to the team’s back line, and as an experienced player - Emery will do well to acquire his services.
