When Pogba arrived at Manchester United for a world record fee, a lot of people believed he would be the figurehead in restoring the club back to the pinnacle of English football.

Despite showing flashes of his brilliance on occasion, the World Cup winner has not done enough over the years to justify either his huge salary outlay or his pedigree.

His supposed indifferent attitude on the field caused consternation, with fans criticizing him, while pundits and ex-players also had their say, with Roy Keane calling him a 'big problem' and Mourinho branding him a 'virus'.

Upon Solskjaer's appointment, he promised to help get the best out of Pogba and rebuild the team around him but despite initially performing brilliantly and leading United's charge up the table, the ex-Juventus man once more saw his form drop. He was one of the players most culpable for the Red Devil's end-of-season capitulation which saw them miss out on Champions League football.

Real Madrid is in need of serious rebuilding moving forward and they need players who can perform on a world-class level on a consistent basis to take them there. But on the evidence of his three-year spell at Manchester United, that player might not be Paul Pogba.
