By the end of May 2018, Spanish giants, Real Madrid were feeling on top of the world. Los Blancos just defended the UEFA Champions League once again and became the first side in history to claim the European crown in three consecutive seasons - receiving a lot of praises from football fans and pundits alike for their incredible exploits.
However, fast forward eight months from that time and everything has gone abysmally. Once undisputed kings of Europe, Los Blancos have fallen from grace to grass and they now look like a mere shadow of the team which conquered the continental crown a few months ago.
Regardless of their status, it is quite evident that Real Madrid are not ready to compete for anything this season. As a matter of fact, considering how poor they have been of late, it doesn't look like the Spanish giants will get out of that mess anytime soon and the idea of winning a trophy is clearly out of their reach this season due to the following reasons.

#4 Poor performances
To be sincere, Real Madrid do not look like a team that could win any trophy this season as Los Blancos have been mere shadows of themselves since the beginning of the campaign, and that is quite undeniable given that their performances have been really poor so far.
The Spanish giants are currently 5th on the La Liga table, 10 points behind leaders FC Barcelona, having won 9 drawn 3 and lost 6 of their 18 games in the Spanish top flight this season. Although they managed to progress into the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League, their performances during the group stage of the tournament weren't very impressive as they were badly exposed by CSKA Moscow.
Performances on the pitch remain the best way by which teams prove themselves as trophy contenders. But judging with Real Madrid's displays so far, it is clear that the Spanish giants have not made any statement that suggests they are ready to fight for any prize this season.
#3 Inexperienced Coach
Julen Lopetegui was the man who replaced Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid's coach during the previous summer but the manager's failure to return the team to top shape cost him his job and he was replaced by his former assistant manager Santiago Solari, who is now in charge of affairs at the Bernabeu.
Just one month into his role as Real Madrid manager and it has become evident that the Argentine is struggling with the pressure in the Spanish capital. Although Solari has been putting in a great effort, it is pretty clear that he lacks the experience to manage such a big club at this stage of his managerial career, especially during these difficult moments, while the ego in the dressing room hasn't made things any easier.
The team lacks a precise style of play right now and their performances have followed the same profile. If things continue this way, Real Madrid should surely forget about winning any titles during the campaign.
#2 Crisis
The crisis at the Santiago Bernabeu right now is another factor that could prevent Real Madrid from winning any trophy this season, with everything looking destabilized in the Spanish capital at the moment.
Players are failing to impress - the likes of Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos have all been misfiring this season and there is no confidence in the overall performance of the team at the moment.
Rumors are also linking a number of their superstars with moves away from the Spanish capital, with Spanish duo Isco and Dani Ceballos being good examples of such while the club has done very little in signing reinforcements to bolster their squad during the transfer window.
The fans have been crying out to Florentino Perez to resign from his post while some are pointing fingers to other figures at the club. All these will definitely make it almost impossible for the club challenge for any trophy during the term.
#1 The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo
After ten incredible years at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid decided to part ways with Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who left the Spanish giants to complete a mega move to join Juventus during the summer, and that decision has come back to hurt Los Blancos terribly as they continue to suffer in the absence of the attacker.
Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in the history of the game and any team that is lucky to get him becomes automatic contenders for titles. He is a type of player who drags his team to glory even when they are not playing very well and we saw enough of that during his time at the Bernabeu, especially in the UEFA Champions League.
Real Madrid's decision to let go of the Portuguese maestro could be the worst they've taken in recent years and in the absence of the winger, their chances of winning any trophy this season looks really bleak.
