Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid cancel each other out in a thrilling Madrid derby at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite fair chances at both ends, the game ended nil-nil at half-time. But Cristiano Ronaldo ensured there's a breakthrough soon after the interval as he struck for the 10th game in a row. As Los Blancos finally looked to have beaten their city rivals at home, Griezmann intervened to pounce on a defensive flaw to equalise for the Rojiblancos.
Both Madrid teams then pushed for the winner, especially the home team, but there was simply no separating them till the full-time whistle as the match ended 1-1, allowing Barcelona to pull further clear at the top.
Here are some amazing stats from the Madrid derby
#1 Ronaldo scores 650th career goal
In a career that's been touching one milestone after the other ever since the beginning, Cristiano Ronaldo added another feather to his cap.
The Portuguese star struck once more to take his career tally for cub and country to 650 goals, in a mammoth 905 appearances; a figure very few players in the history have managed to register. He's scored 81 of them for his national side, and 569 in club colours, 446 of which have come in those of Real Madrid alone!
One of the greatest goalscorers of the game, Ronaldo trails only Gerd Muller, Franco Bromovhic, Pele, Romario and Josef Bican in the all-time list of the most prolific goalscorers.
#2 Atletico are now 5 league games unbeaten at the Bernabeu
The Santiago Bernabeu isn't an easy place to visit. Unless your name just happens to be Atletico Madrid. By pegging their mightier neighbours back to another draw, the Diego Simeone side have extended their unbeaten run at the Bernabeu to five games in the league now.
Real Madrid have although enjoyed dominance over Atletico Madrid in Europe, they haven't been able to replicate that mind of form in the league, and the latter once again took firm advantage of the same.
The unbeaten run sees them equal Barcelona's record set in 1972 when they were unbeaten at the Bernabeu for five straight league games - winning thrice and drawing twice. The Rojiblancos were also the first side to win thrice consecutively in Real's backyard from the 2013/14 season to 2015/16, before the Catalans registered a similar record last December with the 3-0 win.
#3 Ronaldo the first to score 40 goals in 8 consecutive seasons
Having already marvelled at his incredible feats with the goal in the earlier slide, here's another one - with a strike on Sunday, Ronaldo reached 40 goals for the season; the 8th successive season in which boasted such a haul, the only player to do so.
The Portuguese astro has been in a league of his own since swapping the red of Manchester for the white of Madrid. And after enduring what was his worst start to a season, has shifted gears since the turn of the year and firing at all cylinders again.
While his first season with the Spanish giants ended with a considerable 33 goals in all competitions, every next year has seen the talisman cross the 40-goal mark. This term, after amassing only 16 strikes in the first half of the campaign, the streak was supposedly on course to end. But Ronaldo being just Ronaldo, turned the tables around and silenced all the mutterings of his decline.
Forget 40, he's now in a comfortable position to touch 50 goal-mark again, something he missed last time around.
#4 Griezmann scores in third consecutive Bernabeu visit in La Liga
The diminutive Frenchman has been striking the onion bag ever since he burst onto the scene with Atletico Madrid back in 2014. And even if the current season witnessed a vertiginous fall, he's back into his element and made sure he's back on the scoresheet too in a high-profile Madrid derby.
Just four minutes after Ronaldo opened the scorings, Griezmann pounced on a loose ball resulting from an effort by Vitolo and whacked a shot into the bottom corner to equalise.
For the third season in a row, he has been the difference-maker for his side when they visit the Bernabeu with league commitments, something that no Atletico player has managed since the turn of the millennium!
Truly a big game player, this guy.
#5 Madrid derby eclipses 500-goal mark
El Derbi madrileno doesn't always promise a lot of goal-mouth action, but with twin strikes today, surpassed the 500-goal haul in overall goals tally in La Liga games.
499 at the time of kick-off, Ronaldo, as you would have it, etched his name as the scorer of the 500th goal, before Griezmann added another one soon after to take it one further. It was the 162nd domestic contest in which the milestone was reached.
Real Madrid's dominance in the local derbies see them enjoy a 53% success rate compared to 39 by Atletico, while the goal ratio stands at 286 for 215. A margin not big enough you may feel, right?
