The match started with John Terry and Wayne Bridge refusing to shake the hand. Allegations about Terry’s relationship with Bridge’s ex-partner had been all over the media.
Frank Lampard gave Chelsea the lead with his goal on 42nd minutes, but Carlos Tevez pulled one back to put City on level terms with Chelsea just before the halftime. In the second half, a well-struck shot from Bellamy put City ahead.
Chelsea lost all hope of a comeback after the Ballack and Belletti saw red. Tevez scored from the penalty spot to make the score 3-1. Bellamy scored his second to pile misery on Chelsea to make the score 4-1. Lampard scored from the penalty scored in extra time to end the match at 4-2.
Chelsea won the league that season.
