Chelsea started the match with a 7 point lead at the top of the table.

Hazard capitalized on a mistake from the City goalkeeper Caballero in the early minutes of the first half. Manchester City were dominating possession but Chelsea looked happy to sit back and hit them on the counter.
In the second half, Aguero levelled after a blunder from Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois as he messed up a simple clearance. Minutes later Pedro was brought down by Fernandinho inside the penalty box.
Hazard's penalty was saved by Caballero, but Hazard latched on to the rebound and scored to put Chelsea ahead.
The victory saw Chelsea take a big step towards the Premier League title.
