The 12th week of ISL 2017 has come to an end and in the games we witnessed, there were some superb performances from various teams.
Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC continued their winning runs, while Kerala Blasters also secured a crucial win and the match between FC Goa and NorthEast United was the only draw in the round.
In this article, we look at five forwards whose performances stood out among the rest.
Marcelinho
Marcelinho was a one-man army against Kerala Blasters driving forward with his trickery and passing. The Brazilian was desperately unlucky to be on the losing side. The 30-year-old came close on a number of occasions hitting the woodwork twice including an audacious chipped effort.
The FC Pune City captain attempted five shots, the most by a Pune player. The former Delhi Dynamos player also created three chances for his teammates with his set-pieces being particularly threatening. The diminutive playmaker was targeted for some special treatment by Kerala Blasters as he suffered three fouls but they still couldn’t negate the brilliant Brazilian’s impact.
Izu Azuka
Izu Azuka failed to score but was arguably Jamshedpur FC’s best player against Mumbai City FC. The Nigerian threatened on a number of occasions with his powerful shooting. Azuka played a big role in Jamshedpur FC’s opening goal setting Souvik free on the right flank.
Azuka attempted three shots in the match. The strong forward held the ball well which allowed his teammates to join the attack; he also worked tirelessly helping the defence. With Kervens Belfort yet to score a goal this season, Azuka’s form will be crucial if Jamshedpur FC are to make the semi-finals.
Udanta Singh
Udanta Singh produced a fantastic display against ATK; his cross led to Jordi Montel scoring the own goal. The 21-year-old was brilliantly tormenting the ATK defence with pace, trickery, and crossing. The right winger set up many opportunities and helped stretch the ATK defence. The youngster has now provided four assists, the joint-most by an Indian along with Brandon Fernandes in ISL 2017/18.
Udanta Singh has also worked tirelessly impressing with his energy and defensive contribution, he has attempted 30 tackles, the third highest by a Bengaluru FC player. The former Mumbai City FC winger has emerged as one of the brightest wingers of ISL 2017/18.
Corominas
Corominas once again scored giving FC Goa the lead before they were pegged by a Northeast United equalizer settling for a draw. The Spanish striker was having a quiet match but typically came alive in the box and converted from close range from a superb Manuel Lanzarote cross.
The former Espanyol forward has now scored 13 goals which is the highest in group stages in an ISL season and has contributed in an astonishing 16 goals so far which is more than what three teams have scored in ISL 2017/18. The diminutive forward is averaging a goal every 90 minutes. The 35-year-old has a goal conversion rate of nearly 50% highlighting his lethal finishing.
Miku
Miku scored yet again racing onto a through pass and chipping the goalkeeper to double Bengaluru FC’s advantage and helped them secure a crucial win. The former Rayo Vallecano forward has now scored 11 goals and is the second highest scorer of ISL 2017/18. The Venezuelan striker displayed skill, work rate, and lethal finishing when mattered.
Miku also worked hard defensively as Bengaluru FC were a man down due to Bose being shown a red card. The 32-year-old’s deadly shooting can be highlighted by the fact that he has attempted 30 shots and 21 of them have been on target.
