#3 Paul Pogba (Manchester United)
Paul Pogba enjoyed an excellent start to the season with Manchester United, although his form has dipped in recent weeks.
The France international is an extremely talented individual, although his time with Manchester United cannot be defined clearly. Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus for a then world-record fee of £94.5 million in 2016. Five seasons later, it is still unclear as to whether the move has worked out.
It can be said that Pogba has been one of Manchester United's better players since joining the club. The 28-year-old has made nine Premier League appearances this season, providing seven assists. His contract with the club expires next summer. Negotiations are still ongoing for a contract renewal but reports are that the Frenchman will likely leave in the summer.
#2 Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea)
Mateo Kovacic has been one of Chelsea's best performers this season. The midfielder has quietly produced some top performances.
Ever since his Inter Milan days, Kovacic has been regarded as a player with high potential. A move to Real Madrid in 2015 did not work out for the Croatia international. This was mainly because of the presence of his countryman and idol, Luka Modric.
He subsequently joined Chelsea in 2018, on an initial loan deal. It was made permanent the next year for £40.5 million.
Kovacic is renowned for his technical prowess and passing ability. The 27-year-old has made nine Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists. Competing with stars like Jorginho, Saul and N'Golo Kante, Kovacic has stood out.
#1 Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United)
Kalvin Phillips has emerged as a Premier League star after some stellar displays for club and country.
A product of the Leeds United academy, Phillips played a crucial role in the club's promotion to the Premier League in 2020. The 25-year-old has wowed viewers with his excellent passing and defensive solidity. He was a regular member of the England first XI as they reached the final of the Euros this summer, where they lost to Italy in penalties.
Phillips won England's 2020-21 Men's Player of the Year for his national team performance. The Englishman was linked with a move away from Leeds United this summer, with Manchester United suggested as a potential destination for the midfielder. He has made six Premier League appearances this season.
