#3 England vs Czech Republic
UEFA EURO Qualifiers (Group A)
22-03-2019
England are in one of the very best periods of their history - for all of the attention and hype surrounding the English national team, they have notoriously underperformed over the years and have a very scanty trophy cabinet when placed alongside other European heavyweights like Italy, Germany, Spain and France.
Their recent success has not been sparked by a 'Golden Generation' but rather by a bunch of united and young individuals, who form a solid team.
The Three Lions surprisingly made it all the way to the semi-finals of the World Cup, led by the Golden Boot winner Harry Kane. For those who felt it was a fluke, they followed it up with some impressive showings in the first ever UEFA Nations League, where they unexpectedly topped a group also containing Spain and World Cup runners-up Croatia, despite having a slow start.
It is with this renewed sense of purpose that England begin their qualification quest for EURO 2020, and in keeping with his promotion of youth, Gareth Southgate has named an extremely young squad including the likes of Trent-Alexander Arnold, Jadon Sancho, Callum Hudson Odoi, Ben Chilwell among others, with reports suggesting he could name a squad with an average age as young as 21 years.
The clash at Wembley sees England kick off their qualification against the Czech Republic who despite having fallen from the highs of the mid-noughties would fancy their chances against a vastly inexperienced England side.
