5 bizarre and funny incidents in Football

Football is a bizarre sport in itself. Humor is often a common ingredient in it and it provides us with an array of emotions. Over the years, we have witnessed some hilarious incidents on the pitch and here is a look at five of them. They will make you laugh for sure.

5. Kuwait refuse to play a World Cup game.

It was the 1982 World Cup and Kuwait, the debutants were playing France. The French team was leading 3-1. French defender Maxime Bossis scores a goal but Kuwait stopped playing claiming that they heard a whistle from the referee. The goal was awarded but what happened next was legendary.

The Kuwait Football Association president who was at the venue came to the pitch, yelled at the referee along with his players. After a 15 minute delay, the referee had to overrule the goal.

Ultimately, Kuwait lost the game. After the World Cup, the referre Myroslav Stuper’s status as an International referee was removed. Poor referee!

4. The Drunk Referee

Well, when I’m watching a Football game with my friends, after a series of bad decisions, I always say “The bloody referee is drunk” but it actually turned out to be the case in a Belarus league game. The referee was Mr. Sergie Schmolik, who once officiated England’s 1999 game against Luxembourg.

He was hammered the whole game and didn’t give out any cards. He kept standing in the center of the pitch and hardly moved. After the game was over, another official came over and carried him off the pitch.

Of course, he was suspended from the Belarus FA after the game.

3. Di Canio pushes the referee

Well, you might remember Paolo Di Canio, the guy who fell out with almost all Italian coaches. In 1998, he was playing for Sheffield against Arsenal.

He commits a foul and the referee gives him a red card. Di Canio gets angry, pushes the referee in the chest with two hands. Wel, what was funny is how dramatically the ref fell down. Take a look at the video! I still can’t stop laughing.

2. Zaire player’s brilliant Free Kick

This one again is utterly hilarious. It was the 1974 World Cup and Brazil were playing a group stage game against Minnows Zaire. Brazil have a direct free kick right in front of the goal.

They place the ball and the referee blows his whistle. Before the Brazilian player kicks the ball, one the Zaire player comes rushing off the wall and kicks the ball away.

The Zaire player thinks that he has saved his team from a bad situation and takes a bow!

He gets booked and the kick was taken again.

1. The Manchester United Imposter

This must be the greatest con ever pulled off in a Football field and that too in a major Champions League game.

Take a look at the above picture. Do you realize the guy who is standing on the left corner? Don’t think too much, you wouldn’t because he is our imposter Karl Power.

I have to appreciate this guy. What guts! He and his friends planned this for months and when United were facing Bayern Munich in Germany, Power walked into the field along with other United players.

Gary Neville pointed at him and said “who he is?” but it was too late as the cameras around the world captured this wonderful image.

Honorable Mention : Diana Ross and the amazing penalty.

It was 1994 and the US were hosting their first ever Football world cup. They were determined to put on a great show and the opening ceremony was entertaining.

Then Diana Ross, the singer sang some songs and the crowd was happy. Now, she had to kick the ball into the penalty from close range. She misses the whole thing and the goal net gives away altogether.
