It is becoming increasingly difficult for Chelsea youngsters to break into their first-team. The Blues have started to loan players out on a huge scale, and for a lot of these players it is unlikely that they will ever break into the team.
However, we take a look at five players who have the potential to do so.
#5 Kenedy
The versatile Brazilian is currently on loan at Newcastle United in the Premier League and has made a dazzling start to life at St. James's Park. Since joining them in January, he has scored 2 goals in 6 games and looks like the man who can inspire them to top-flight safety.
His form and performances will not go unnoticed by Chelsea and he will be in contention for a place in their first-team next season with the way things are going.
He is comfortable as a left-back or a left-winger and has shown that he has what it takes to play in the Premier League, during his time with Newcastle He has pace, power and the trickery to trouble defences and offer a threat going forward. He is a player to keep an eye on for Chelsea.
#4 Charly Musonda
The 21 year-old midfielder is highly-rated by Chelsea and has a bright future ahead of him. He is currently on loan at Scottish Premier League giants Celtic and spent last season on loan at Real Betis.
He made 24 appearances for them in the La Liga and adapted well to their style of play. He now plays for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers and looks set to get his hands on the Scottish title.
He is quick, has flair and also has the ability to succeed at Chelsea. He has the potential to develop into a top player in the Premier League and would offer the Blues a different dimension in their attack, over the coming years. He is certainly a player to keep an eye on over the next couple of seasons.
#3 Ethan Ampadu
The 17 year-old was snapped up from League Two side Exeter City, and has already been given a chance in the Chelsea first-team. He has played two games for the Wales national team.
He is one of the brightest young talents in the top-flight at the moment and has a bright future in the game ahead of him. He made his debut for Exeter in the fourth tier when he was just 15 years-old, which shows how impressive he is. He went on to play 13 times for them before leaving to join Chelsea.
The fact that he is already getting plenty of game-time suggests that he is in their long-term plans. He is calm and composed on the ball and has the potential to be a key player for Chelsea in the future as he suits their style of play.
#2 Callum Hudson-Odoi
The tricky winger was influential for the England U17s in their World Cup triumph last year. He is a key player for the talented U17s and has played 22 games for them to date. The 17 year-old has been at Chelsea since he was 10.
He is getting the Chelsea fans excited about the future as he is a homegrown player and they would love to see an academy product break into their first-team. Out of everyone in their youth ranks, although he is still a raw talent, Hudson-Odoi has the speed and sharpness to make it at Chelsea.
#1 Tammy Abraham
The 20 year-old striker is currently on loan at Swansea City and has not quite matched the 26 goals from last season - when he played for Bristol City in the Championship. However, he still has a future at Chelsea ahead of him.
He made his England senior debut in November 2017 against Germany at Wembley, which suggests he is rated highly by the national team boss, Gareth Southgate. He may potentially have one more campaign out on loan, most likely to another Premier League outfit, before breaking into Chelsea's team.
This is because he has only scored 4 times for Swansea City in the league this season and could do with going to a team where he is a regular starter and not used as an impact substitute. He is a tall and powerful front man and is a good plan B option for the Blues in the future.
The verdict
Many youngsters at Chelsea will never break into their first-team due to the sheer number of players they have in their ranks. Nevertheless, the five that have been mentioned have the ability and potential to be key players in the future if they continue their development.
