Sir Alex Ferguson had won a record-breaking 38 trophies during his time at the Old Trafford and his last season turned out to be big for Manchester United.
Though United was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16, they won the Premier League title with 4 games to spare. United finished the season with 89 points, 11 more than second-placed Manchester City, and sealed the title on 28th April 2013 when they beat Aston Villa.
With 26 goals, Robin van Persie was the top scorer for Manchester United. Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez played the supporting roles to van Persie, scoring 10 and 12 goals respectively. The Red Devils scored 86 goals in the season, 20 more than Manchester City.
