Barcelona was forced to form a guard of honour in order to welcome the Real Madrid players, who were celebrating their title victory as an end of the season clash. The Blaugrana aligned themselves in a perfect manner as Real Madrid entered the pitch with no remorse. Bernd Schuster's side was performing an extremely unparallel manner, as the season closed with one of the most one-sided league performances delivered by the Los Blancos.

However, it was only the beginning of one of the worst nights in the history of Barcelona, as they were completely thrashed after the 4-1 defeat at the end of the season. With little to no possession, Barcelona was able to score just one goal. They did, however, return in the very next season completely demolishing the Real Madrid side and winning multiple accolades for their club. The guard of honour is yet again something that the Barcelona fans will never forget.
