#2 Champions League semi-final 1986/87: Bayern Munich 4 – 1 Real Madrid
A long time ago, but an incredible victory for Bayern nonetheless as the German giants toppled the Spanish champions with ease.
An opener from Klaus Augenthaler, a penalty by Lothar Matthäus and a goal from Roland Wohlfarth saw Bayern take a commanding 3-0 lead after 37 minutes in the semi-final first leg.
Just 2 minutes after the goal, Juanito, reacting to a tackle by Matthaus on his team-mate Chendo, stamped on the German’s back and then proceeded to scrap his studs on Matthaus’s face. Juanito was then sent off, effectively ending any chances for his team on the night.
In the 45th minute, Real got themselves on the scoresheet through Emilio Butragueno.
However, in the 53rd minute after being awarded a second penalty, Matthaus made it 4-1, making it nearly impossible for Real Madrid in the second leg. To make matters worse, in the 72nd minute, Real were reduced to 9 men after Bernardino Serrano Mori received a second yellow card on a dreadful European night for Real.
