#3 Champions League round of 16 2006/07: Real Madrid 3 – 2 Bayern Munich
In the 2007 meeting of the first leg in the last 16, Real Madrid and Bayern battled it out in another dramatic tie filled with goals.
Raul was decisive on the night once again. His first goal, after his attempt to round Oliver Kahn was partly intercepted, was a volley into an open goal in the 10th minute. However, that was then cancelled out after an equaliser from Lucio with a perfectly placed header in the 23rd minute.
Just five minutes later, Real retook the lead through Raul once again as he was there to nod home on the goal line after the ball was headed back towards goal. Six minutes later in the 34th minute, Ruud van Nistelrooy then converted Real’s third from just six yards out as Madrid looked to be running away with the tie.
An incredible night of deliveries from David Beckham caused Bayern all sorts of trouble as they struggled to deal with persistent Real pressure.
But, with just two minutes to play after a period of pressure from the away side, Marco van Bommel volleyed low into the bottom left corner, a goal that would prove crucial and send Bayern through on away goals over two legs.
