#5 Champions League semi-final 2011/12: Real Madrid 2 – 1 Bayern Munich (Bayern win 3-1 on penalties)
Bayern and Real Madrid’s clashes in 2012 were extremely tight with both games ending 2-1 to either side, sending the second leg to extra time and penalties, where Bayern would reach the final.
In the second leg at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid took the lead after just six minutes through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and in the 14th minute that man scored once again to make it 2-0. A quick pass from Mesut Ozil and quick touch and finish from Ronaldo made it look as though Madrid were going to turn around the one goal deficit comfortably.
However, in the 27th minute, Bayern grabbed their away goal through Robben from the penalty spot. This would prove to be the final goal on the night as the tie eventually went to penalties.
After a missed penalty from Sergio Ramos over the crossbar, Bayern had the chance to go through on penalties, a chance which Bastian Schweinsteiger took. Bayern would go on to suffer heartbreak in the Champions League final against Chelsea, but on this occasion against Real, they came out on top.
