#3 Kostas Tsimikas
Much of Liverpool's success has been down to the performances of their full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. The pair are rarely rotated by Jurgen Klopp and feature in almost every game when available.
Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos last summer for a fee of £11.7 million as a backup to Robertson at left-back. The 24-year-old was supposed to step in when Robertson needed a rest.
However, things have not gone according to plan. Tsimikas has not enjoyed a promising debut campaign. Injuries have played a role, but Robertson has been a predominant feature in almost every Liverpool game. The Greek international has made just six appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season.
#2 Takumi Minamino
Takumi Minamino's signing was heralded as another smart acquisition by Liverpool.
Minamino had been in phenomenal form for Red Bull Salzburg during the 2019-20 season and earned himself a move to Liverpool in January 2020. In 199 appearances across all competitions for RB Salzburg, Minamino scored 64 goals and provided 44 assists. The Japanese international was therefore seen as an ideal addition to Liverpool's squad and a good attacking option from the bench.
However, Minamino has not been utilized consistently so far. He has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring four goals. Liverpool loaned him out to Southampton in January 2021 and the 26-year-old has made six appearances for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side, scoring two goals.
#1 Xherdan Shaqiri
Xherdan Shaqiri's decline at Liverpool has been surprising to see, given how much his signing in 2018 was praised.
Liverpool once again highlighted their smart recruitment policy when they signed Shaqiri from a relegated Stoke City for £13.2 million. Quite like Minamino, Shaqiri was bought to provide healthy competition to Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino's places in the starting XI.
The Swiss international enjoyed a good first season at the club but has barely featured since. Shaqiri has made 62 appearances in all competitions since arriving in 2018, scoring eight goals. The 29-year-old made just seven league appearances last season and has made 13 this season. Like Davies, Shaqiri could leave in the summer.
