What a turnaround a change of management can make! Bayern Munich is the embodiment of this very event.
Struggling to stick to a footballing philosophy under Italian great, Carlo Ancelotti, Jupp Heynckes was brought out of retirement to steady the behemoth that is Bayern and bring it's season back on track and boy did it work like a charm!
And while all looks settled for this season, everyone is looking to what the future holds for Bayern once Heynckes steps down in the summer.
While all Bayern fans would want him to continue for one more year, 'Osram', as he is affectionately known has made it pretty clear that he has no intentions of continuing beyond this season.
Let's take a look at 5 managers who could potentially be at the helm of Bayern Munich come June 2018.
#5 Julian Nagelsman
Only people who follow the Bundesliga would have heard of or know of Julian Nagelsmann.
At only 30 years of age, he has been a revelation of sorts. After having his playing career cut short due to injury, he studied business management and sports science before entering the management world.
Last season, he sensationally led Hoffenheim to a 4th place finish and thus ensuring them a place in this season's Champions League, a first in the club's history.
While a good manager, age, and experience is something that would go against him when it comes to managing one of the best clubs in the world.
He is bound to take over at Bayern somewhere down the line, maybe just not now. Then again you can't set this in stone and a young manager with a dynamic footballing philosophy could revitalize the team.
#4 Niko Kovac
The Bayern hierarchy has always believed in bringing back players in management and administrative roles thus allowing them to settle down quickly in their new roles due to being familiar with the system.
Bringing back Heynckes is a testament to this mentality of theirs and in that way, Niko Kovac is a manager who perfectly fits the bill.
Kovac played at Munich from 2001 to 2003 and in the Bundesliga for almost the whole of his career. He has some credible coaching experience, having managed the Croatian national team and currently leading Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt, who are doing extremely well under his tutelage.
Being a former player, the Bayern board would look at his candidature favorably and with recent results supporting his cause, he could be in with a shout at the end of the season.
#3 Joachim Low
News has been circulating for quite some time that Low is looking to get back to club level management and after a stint with the German national team and won the biggest prize at the 2014 World Cup, very few teams could entice him to return and build a legacy.
Having won almost everything at the international level, Low would be itching to win the biggest trophies at club level and Bayern definitely would provide a strong base for him to build his team on. A long shot but not one that can be discarded immediately.
#2 Jurgen Klopp
The scourge of Munich during his time with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp was the last man who successfully challenged Bayern's dominance in the Bundesliga. Since then, he has been marked to be the man to lead them in the future and maybe his time has finally come.
The Bayern hierarchy is very bullish on appointing Klopp but it will be a tough task prying him away from Liverpool whose management seems to hold him in high regard and are backing his transfer plans.
#1 Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel seems the most likely candidate to take over at Bayern in the summer should they be unable to persuade Jupp to continue for another season.
He is a tactically astute manager and his time at Dortmund came to an unfortunate conclusion despite leading them to DFB cup glory last term.
While he seems the perfect candidate to take over Bayern, his past records of having verbal confrontations with higher management is what might scare the bosses in Munich, the reason for his departure from Dortmund.
Nonetheless, Tuchel is a tactical genius and would do wonders at Bayern if he is to be appointed.
