Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy's second-half goals gave Newcastle a deserved victory over a strong Chelsea side at St James' Park.

Chelsea dominated the first half as John Terry hit the bar and had a header cleared off the line which kept the scoreline 0-0 at halftime.

However, Newcastle dictated the proceedings in the second period and went ahead when Yoan Gouffran headed in a free-kick.

Chelsea pushed for an equalizer throughout the game but the Magpies' defence stood firm to deny a single good chance for the Blues in the second half.

The comeback hopes were crushed by Loic Remy when he curled in a shot in the 89th minute to give his side a 2-0 victory at the end.
