Bryan Robson remains one of the greatest defenders of the Sir Alex Ferguson era and played a key role in the initial success of the club. The centre-back joined Manchester United as a bustling 24-year-old ace from West Bromwich Albion. He stayed for 13 years at the Theater of Dreams.

An intelligent and clever operator, Robson was one of the first English defenders to look comfortable in possession. He also had a never-say-die attitude about him, which made him famous amongst the Old Trafford faithful. Although he arrived as a young talent at the club, he left as a leader.

One of his key abilities was scoring goals at opportune moments, despite being the oldest in the squad. In his final season at the club (1993-1994), he scored towards the end of the campaign, thereby proving vital in winning their second consecutive league title.

A true legend of the game, Robson shall forever be remembered as one of the first players to bring about a winning mentality at the Manchester-based club.

#2 Paul Scholes (37 years 9 months 30 days)

Paul Scholes is arguably the best midfielder to have ever played in the Premier League. Although Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have viable arguments for the same, the Manchester United legend had arguably more quality and won more trophies.

An excellent passer of the ball and an innate operator under pressure, Scholes could dictate play against the best of the best sides in Europe. His understanding of the game and ability to change the tide of a match was quite magnificent.

One of the more confusing aspects of his career was when he retired in 2011, only to return six months later. But that proved helpful for the Old Trafford outfit, as the Englishman played his part in the 2012-13 title-winning campaign. During that season, he did score in the opening months, thereby making him the second-oldest goal-scorer in the club's history.

The Red Devils are yet to win a league title since that season. This showcases the importance of a senior leader like Scholes, not to mention his goal-scoring contributions.

#1 Ryan Giggs (39 years 2 months 25 days)

Like Scholes, Ryan Giggs also played his part in several title-winning campaigns at Manchester United, including the last one in 2012-13. To put his goal-scoring contributions into perspective, the Welshman is the only player to score in 21 consecutive seasons in the Premier League.

One of the deadliest wingers in his hey-day, Giggs was a part of the Class of '92 and cemented his spot under Sir Alex Ferguson. The academy graduate scored some iconic goals for the club and continued to do so during the twilight of his career.

For many, it was quite a shock that a player well-beyond his prime still had natural instincts in front of goal and would rarely fret in the big moments. The evidence of the same was when he scored during the business end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Giggs will certainly go down in Manchester United folklore, simply because of his consistency over two decades at the club.
