Chelsea Football Club are one of the biggest clubs on the face of the planet. They’ve won the Premier League in two out of the last three seasons. They’re a global superpower but that doesn’t mean every player currently at the club should want to stay.
Sometimes, the aura of a club can overpower the talent of a player who may not necessarily have a big personality. Some rise to the top while others get lost in the shuffle.
Chelsea have a squad filled with talented players, but not all of them are able to showcase that talent on a weekly basis. In order to receive the plaudits they deserve, they should move away from Stamford Bridge.
Here are 5 players who need to leave Chelsea to progress:
#5 Cesc Fàbregas
When Arsène Wenger first gave Cesc Fàbregas his debut at the age of 16, the whole world knew they were watching a special talent. The Spaniard was clearly gifted in his ability to spot a pass and subsequently blessed with the ability to execute that pass. Fàbregas has had an illustrious career, playing for Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.
However, his time at Chelsea has been a stop-start affair. Last season, one of the world’s best central midfielders spent most of his time on the bench when he could have been breaking assist records somewhere else.
Besides Toni Kroos, there isn’t a midfielder on the planet that has better vision than the Spaniard, and for him to be recognised as that by the masses, he must leave Chelsea.
#4 Kenedy
Since his arrival on the scene, we’ve only seen Robert Kenedy Nunes Nascimento on a handful of occasions for Chelsea. The hybrid left-back/winger possesses the talents to dominate the Premier League. That’s why it’s a wonder why he’s not being deployed at LWB(left wing-back) right now by Conte.
The Brazilian is quicker than Marcos Alonso, more skilful than the Spaniard, has a better crossing technique and is more effective in the final third. This is not to say Marcos Alonso is not a brilliant LWB, it’s just that Kenedy is better.
And the quicker he leaves Chelsea to prove that, the faster the world will see.
#3 Willian
Chelsea’s player of the season in 2015/16 has not been rewarded with the success he deserves. The Brazilian has instead constantly fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. The 29-year old deserves to be starting week in week out at the Bridge.
It’s understandable that Eden Hazard starts ahead of him, but Pedro in this day and age should never be ahead of him. Willian is quick, skilful, productive and decisive in the final third, he’s a player that could be doing so much more if given the adequate playing time.
In his time in West London, Willian has directly contributed to 33 goals, completed 4,842 passes and created 48 clear-cut chances. He’d be an asset to any team and a guaranteed starter for any of the top 4 teams in the Premier League.
#2 Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Believe it or not, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been ready to make the step up to first team football for a long time. The 21-year-old is a special talent that Antonio Conte should have prioritized this season.
Perhaps if he had, Chelsea wouldn’t be already trailing in their title defence bid, anyway, I digress. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a once in a lifetime type of talent. English youngsters are often overhyped to the moon by the media, but in this case, Loftus-Cheek is deserving of every plaudit he receives.
The 21-year old is a rare blend of unprecedented power, strength, pace, skill and football intelligence. He has the ability to be the first world-class English talent since Wayne Rooney first emerged on the scene. A loan spell at Crystal Palace is not befitting of his talents and if he’s to the reach the dizzy heights projected for him, he must leave Chelsea.
#1 Michi Batshuayi
Despite scoring in nearly every one of his big-game appearances, Michi Batshuayi is still not seen as a player worthy of a starting place by Antonio Conte. Last season, he played second fiddle to Diego Costa, understandably so, but to Álvaro Morata this season? Less understandable.
The Spaniard may have cost the Blues £60million, but his goal ratio at Real Madrid doesn’t suggest he should be a guaranteed starter over the Belgian. There should be a rotation between the two at the bare minimum.
Ever since Morata gained match fitness, Conte hasn't looked back and has firmly placed the Spaniard as his first choice.
At the tender age of 23, Michi Batshuayi has already scored 88 goals in his senior career. The Belgian is a natural born goal scorer that has the pace, composure, close control and the intelligence to excel in any league in the world.
He deserves more than to be playing second fiddle when he could be starting for most of the teams in the Premier League.
