#3 Dries Mertens
Chelsea could not invest in the transfer market in the summer due to their transfer ban which was set for 2 windows including the current one. This ban proved to be a blessing in disguise for Chelsea youngsters as Frank Lampard happily gave them chances to prove their mettle at Stamford Bridge and the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Reece James and Mason Mount have already done so.
There have been others like Billy Gilmour who've been handed their debuts while Tammy Abraham is their top scorer across all competitions. Their transfer ban got lifted eventually after appeals and they could operate in the January transfer window. However, it has come to a surprise that Chelsea has not made a move so far in January.
They've been linked with a late move for Belgian striker Dries Mertens who is in the final months of contract at Napoli and will be a free agent in summer. The 32-year-old Belgian striker can also play as a winger and he can provide much-needed depth and experience in those positions for Chelsea should he complete a move to Stamford Bridge before today's deadline gets over.
