Despite sharing many players in the past both Liverpool and Chelsea have seen plenty of drama when they found themselves on the pitch fighting for the three points. It has become a heated rivalry since the days of Mourinho’s first spell with the Blues where he was up against Rafa Benitez.

Since the formation of the Premier League, The London club have seen an astronomical rise in their fortunes winning one Champions League title and four Premier League titles and many FA Cups. Liverpool, on the other hand, haven’t managed to win the Domestic title for more than two decades.

Both clubs will be looking for the win as the two clubs square off once again at Stamford Bridge tonight, and here are five players who have been on both sides of the divide:
#1 Daniel Sturridge
Before becoming a prolific goal scoring machine for Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge had a brief spell at Chelsea FC. Sturridge joined the London club in 2009 but was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers for the second half of 2010-11 season.
After an impressive performance in his loan spell with Wanderers, Sturridge returned to Stamford Bridge only to leave permanently to join Liverpool in 2013 where he along with Luis Suarez formed a devastating partnership that almost won the Merseyside club their first Premier League crown.
Sturridge had suffered from numerous injuries during his time at Stamford Bridge much like his Liverpool career, but the England international did add to his trophy cabinet, having won the Champions League, two FA Cups and a Premier League title with Chelsea.
Sturridge’s best individual performances though have come whilst at Liverpool as he became a vital part of the club when he scored 24 goals during 2013-14 Premier League season.
#2 Boudewijn Zenden
Zenden was signed by Claudio Ranieri in 2001 and played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s rise to prominence making 57 appearances in two seasons.
The winger was soon to be troubled by a lack of form and fitness and was loaned to Middlesbrough in the 2003/04 season. After an eye-catching spell at Middlesbrough, the Dutch midfielder was brought to Liverpool in 2005.
“Bolo” as he was called had made 46 appearances during his time at the club but suffered a string of knee injuries and missed out on the club’s FA Cup win against West Ham.
Zenden did manage to play in Liverpool’s 2007 Champions league final against AC Milan but only to see his club loss to the Italian side. After Zenden’s contract expired at Liverpool the player departed from Merseyside joining Marseille on a two-year deal in July 2007
#3 Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres’ spell at Liverpool ranks amongst the most prolific in the Premier League as he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for the club. Rafael Benitez and the club’s new owners showed great intent as they signed the young Spaniard from Atletico Madrid in 2007 for a club record £20.2 million.
During his time at Liverpool, Torres broke the record for the most number of League goals scored by a non-British player during his debut season in the Premier League which was previously held by Manchester United’s Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Spanish international was also runner-up to Cristiano Ronaldo for the Football Writers' Player of the Year.
After failing to win the Premier League with Liverpool, Fernando Torres made a then League record move to Chelsea for £50 million in 2011, although his move to Stamford Bridge didn’t work out quite as well individually.
Despite this, he won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup while only managing to score 45 goals in 172 appearances.
#4 Glen Johnson
The 32-year-old England international is one of the most naturally gifted right-backs in the game of football and was signed by Chelsea FC in the summer of 2003 for £6 million from West Ham United.
Things didn’t really go according to plan for the youngster under Jose Mourinho as he was second choice right back behind Paulo Ferreira and was never really given a chance to shine for the London club. He eventually moved on to Portsmouth in 2007.
After two wonderful seasons with Pompey, the right-back was signed up by Liverpool in 2009 for £17.5 million and did decently well, establishing himself as a regular for both club and country during his days on Merseyside.
Currently, the right back plays for Stoke City in the Premier League after five seasons with the Merseyside club.
#5 Nicolas Anelka
Throughout his illustrious career, the Frenchman has played for more than 10 clubs including Paris St Germain, Arsenal, and Real Madrid.
Joining Chelsea in 2008 from Bolton would prove to be one of the most successful spells of his nomadic career as he formed a deadly partnership with Didier Drogba and became the top goal scorer in the 2009-09 Premier League season. He also went on to win the Premier League with the Blue’s the following season.
Years before, Anelka showed glimpses of his amazing talent during his brief cameo at Anfield during 2001-02 season scoring five goals for the club in very few appearances. Liverpool had the chance of signing the Frenchman on a permanent basis at the end of that season but Gerard Houllier opted to sign El Hadji Diouf instead.
