5 potential candidates for the Borussia Dortmund job at the end of the season

Arsenal FC v 1. FC Koeln - UEFA Europa League
Stoger is Dortmund boss until end of the season

Peter Bosz was replaced by former Cologne manager Peter Stoger as the interim Borussia Dortmund manager till the end of the season by the club. While Stoger is a good manager who has the opportunity to impress the board at Dortmund in the second half of the season, odds are that he will be replaced come the end of the season as he is seen as a stop-gap.

Bosz was appointed the manager before the start of the season after he had a great year with Ajax, guiding them to the Europa League final last season.

Currently, in third place, Dortmund began the season rather well, but things quickly took a bad turn and Bosz was unable to change things. A Champions League group stage exit coupled with terrible league form saw Bosz lose his job as manager.

Here we take a look at five managers who should be considered by Dortmund come the end of the season.

#5 Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique Unveiled As New Barcelona Coach
Luis Enrique at his Barcelona unveiling

Former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique could be interested, given the rich history and pedigree of the club, as it will be a big challenge of his coaching career. If Dortmund were interested in the manager he would provide a solid steady team capable of playing at a high pace, using simple but fun footballing methods.

A tactical coach with great technical coaching ability, Enrique could bode well for the German giants if he can grasp the German language quickly. Communication will be his only concern and if Enrique is given the shot he could quickly turn things around for Dortmund and make them a competitive force in the league next season.

Enrique would also help attract a few top players given his pedigree and managerial successes with Barcelona. A former player at the highest level earlier in his football career, Enrique is an experienced professional with great knowledge of the various aspects of the game.

#4 Marcelo Bielsa

Olympique de Marseille v Juventus FC - Preseason Friendly
Bielsa during his time as Olympique de Marseille manager

Former Argentina, Chile and Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelo Bielsa is known the world over for his coaching prowess and is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the game today. A veteran manager with over 20 years of experience, the Argentinian has managed in Spain, Italy and in most recently in France with Lille.

Borussia Dortmund are a German club steeped in history and tradition with core values that fit the profile of Marcelo Bielsa perfectly. The Argentinian manager could bring stability and excitement to the club with attacking, fluent football despite a relatively small budget.

The highly experienced manager Bielsa guided Athletic Bilbao to the Europa League final a couple of years back playing a brand of football that was spectacular to watch. Dortmund would be getting the most experienced coach in world football, with great ability to mould and shape teams to achieve big things and have a bit of fun in the process.

#3 Laurent Blanc

Paris Saint-Germain Training Session and Press Conference
Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Blanc

Former PSG, Bordeaux and France manager Laurent Blanc is another candidate for the vacant Borussia Dortmund job at the end of the season. The World Cup winning Frenchman is a highly experienced manager and astute tactician who has taken charge of some the biggest games at the highest level.

The Frenchman began his coaching career with Bordeaux in 2007 and won the French league title and two cups in his three years at the club before taking over the reigns of the national team from 2010 to 2012.

PSG appointed the Frenchman and though he guided the club to domestic glory, continental success eluded PSG. With great knowledge and expertise on the game, Blanc could fit well at Dortmund and take the club to new heights.

He has won multiple league titles and cups with PSG during his three years at the club and is a serial winner capable of competing against the biggest clubs in the world.

#2 Ronald Koeman

Former Ajax, Valencia, Southampton and Everton manager, Ronald Koeman is a possible candidate for the job at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. Koeman was recently dismissed from Everton after a string of poor performances but he is not one to sit and dwell and might be interested in the task at hand at Westfalenstadion.

The Dutchman began his coaching career as an assistant with the Dutch national team and Barcelona before beginning his own managerial career with Vitesse in 2000.

Koeman will look to implement a brand of attacking, fluent football at any club he works at and is a great judge of football talent. With vast experience, he is highly capable of doing a good job at Dortmund. A fierce competitor and a winner, Koeman demands great work ethic from his staff and players every week.

#1 Carlo Ancelotti

Elche FC v Real Madrid CF - La Liga
The Quiet One - Carlo Ancelloti

The three-time Champions League winner and multiple time league winner in various countries, Carlo Ancelotti is Europe's most accomplished manager. Earlier this season, the Italian got the boot from Bayern but could come back to haunt Munich if he picks up the vacant job at Dortmund at the end of the season.

The Dortmund job would suit the Italian and he is experienced enough in the German league to try and correct some of his mistakes at Bayern with Dortmund. The Italian could bring back stability to the club and take on a real challenge at a historical club aiming to rise to the top of Europe once again.

The former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Chelsea manager to name a few of the top clubs he's managed. Ancelotti could make a Juventus to Milan type switch in Germany at the end of the season in what will be a great acquisition for the German club.

With a bunch of talented individuals in Dortmund, Ancelotti could usher in a new era of greatness at the Westfalenstadion.
