With no Premier League football for at least a few more days, I've decided to delve a little into the squads of the Premier League teams in search of international trophy winners. After all, having title winners in your team helps in a lot of ways as youngsters can learn from these players and the winning mentality rubs into the whole squad.
It wasn't really surprising that most of these players are employed by the big guns of the League whereas some of them were scattered in some of the mid-table clubs.
So let us take a look and see who employs the most no. of winners.
Note- Only senior teams and competitions have been considered.
Honorable Mentions
Liverpool- Emre Can (Germany, Confederations Cup 2017)
Southhampton- Cedric (Portugal, EURO 2016)
West Ham United- Jose Fonte (Portugal, EURO 2016), Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina, Olympics 2008)
Leicester City- Ahmed Musa (Nigeria, AFCON 2013)
Swansea City- Wilfried Bony (Ivory Coast, AFCON 2015)
#5 Tottenham Hotspur- 2
We start off with a rather unexpected name. Tottenham's inclusion in this list was only possible due to their newest summer recruits.
Fernando Llorente and Serge Aurier are only 2 players to have won trophies with their respective nations, Spain and Ivory Coast.
Aurier has been a mainstay in the Ivory Coast team for past few years during which he won the AFCON in 2015.
Fernando Llorente in perhaps a name that seems to have been around for some time but somehow he never managed to be the main striker in the Spain squad due to the presence of a certain David Villa. However, he does have two international trophies namely the World Cup 2010 and EURO 2012 to his name.
#4 Manchester United- 3
Given the fact that Manchester United are one of the biggest names in world football, one would expect that they have quite a number of international winners in their ranks. But that's not the case.
The number could have been much higher had France and Argentina not faltered in their recent tournament finals.
The Red Devils do, however, have some experienced winners such as Eric Bailly, Sergio Romero and Juan Mata on their books.
Eric Bailly is one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League and is also fairly experienced in the international scene with the AFCON 2015 win under his belt.
Sergio Romero is quite a veteran with 91 appearances for the Argentine national team with the 2008 Olympics gold to his name.
Juan Mata's only fault was that his best football came during the heydeys of midfield maestros Xavi and Iniesta. Had he been born in a different era, he could have certainly been the main creative force for Spain. Even though he was a squad player, he did manage to rack up winners' medals in the World Cup 2010 and EURO 2012.
#3 Arsenal - 4
Seems a rather high number of winners for a team that has failed to challenge for the league or European title.
Arsenal's most important players aren't just important for them. They have guided their respective national teams to glory in recent tournaments.
Shkodran Mustafi may be a new face in the German setup but he has got the experience of winning 2 top international tournaments; the World Cup in 2014 and the Confederations Cup earlier this year 2017.
Arsenal's midfield general, Santi Cazorla has been involved in the Spanish team for nearly a decade and has the EURO 2008 and 2012 to show for his efforts.
Ah, Mesut Ozil! No other Arsenal player divides opinion like Ozil. On his day, he can slice open the meanest of defences with ease and grace, whereas during some important matches, he has disappointed. Nonetheless, Ozil was the creative force that drove Germany towards the 2014 World Cup.
Alexis Sanchez may well be the reason for Arsenal achieving what little they have achieved. The Chilean is one of the most committed and hard-working players on the pitch. He won two consecutive Copa America titles (2015, 2016) with Chile.
#2 Chelsea- 4
The defending champions boast of the same number of winners as their London rivals. Their best performers over the past few title-winning seasons is also the reason for success with their national teams.
For all the flak that David Luiz has received, he is one the best ball-playing centre-backs in the league. His free kicks aren't too shabby either. Luiz was a part of the Brazil team that won the Confederations Cup in 2013.
Victor Moses, being quite the nomad in the Premier League, has finally settled into his new role under Antonio Conte. Moses has a fair amount of games for Nigeria and his success includes the AFCON 2013.
Pedro, a La Masia graduate, chose to swap Barcelona for Chelsea in search of more minutes. Although he took some time to settle, he has delivered whenever called into action. He has been on the international scene since 2010 and his successes include the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.
One of Arsene Wenger's greatest finds, Cesc Fabregas is one of the best central midfielders boasting unparalleled vision and creativity. He has found success wherever he has played and translated that into his international performances too.
His peak performances coincided with the golden years of Spain, leading them to 3 consecutive trophies, EURO 2008, 2010 World Cup and EURO 2012.
#1 Manchester City - 5
Manchester City is a club that is much frowned upon due to their excessive spending and resulting success. While that's a discussion for another day, City no doubt have invested smartly on experienced winners who formed the backbone of their Premier League success in recent years.
Although at the twilight of his career, Yaya Toure has been one of the best central midfielders to don the sky blue in the Premier League era. With a century of appearances for Ivory Coast, Yaya Toure retired a legend with the highlight being an AFCON 2015 trophy.
City's leading men, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have found success in the 2008 and 2016 Olympics with their respective nations.
Claudio Bravo came to England with a lot of reputation due to his exploits with Chile resulting in two consecutive Copa Americas in 2015, 2016, and in Spain with Real Sociedad and Barcelona. Its safe to say Bravo's stint in England hasn't done justice to the above-mentioned success.
One of the many players to have been brought in during the Sheikh Mansour era, it is safe to say David Silva has made his £30 million transfer seem like a bargain. Silva had every attribute that one associated with a Spanish player and more. His silky play and touches earned him the nickname Merlin.
Much like Cesc Fabregas, was also an integral part of Spain's successes in the EURO 2008, 2010 World Cup and EURO 2012.
