2) An inability to inspire and lead
Liverpool would never have pulled off their stunning 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund under a manager like Brendan Rogers and that is a fact. Ever since Jurgen Klopp has arrived at the club there has been a belief and defiance that runs throughout the Liverpool team we haven’t seen before.
That leadership and inspiration is exactly what Arsenal have been lacking. Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem to be able to generate that belief in his players like Klopp has with Liverpool.
When Arsenal went unbeaten in 2003/04, that team consisted of a set of players who knew what it took to win a league. Every single one of them could have been named the captain of the side and they never needed a reminder of their ambitions.
The current crop of players seem to lack direction and belief when the going gets tough and it is the manager’s job in those scenarios to motivate his players. Wenger doesn’t seem like the inspiring type and even if he is it looks like he has lost the ability to lead
In matches against Manchester United and Swansea this campaign, which were important ones for the Gunners, the players seemed devoid of desire and hunger to win and that is down to a lack of leadership in the squad.
