Mourinho is one of the most successful managers of all time

Chelsea have lost nine times in 16 Premier League matches this seasonChelsea boss Jose Mourinho is once again the favourite to be the next Premier League manager who gets the sack this season. After losing his ninth game of the season to Leicester City on Monday, many believe that Chelsea will fire the Portuguese for the second time.Mourinho is going through the worst period of his illustrious career. He is known for winning silverware wherever he goes, but since winning the Premier League title and Capital One Cup last season, the Special One has seemingly failed to motivate his champions. He couldn't even get them to beat the New York Red Bulls during their pre-season tour, and their horrific form has continued into the current Premier League campaign, where they have lost to the likes Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Stoke City.So far, Roman Abramovic has kept his hand steady, refusing to wield the axe. The club even issued a public statement backing the manager, something which has never happened before. Any other manager would have probably been fired by now, but Chelsea are showing patience with Mourinho. Here are five reasons why they should continue to do so.

#1 He still is one of the best managers in the world

Mourinho is one of the most successful managers of all time

Recent results may suggest otherwise, but you shouldn't let that fool you. Mourinho is still one of the best managers in football today. He is an excellent motivator and tactician who does a splendid job when it comes to preparation. He is undoubtedly the best manager Chelsea have ever had, sharing responsibility for taking them to where they are today as a club.

Mourinho has an outstanding resume as a manager. He has won eight league titles, spread across Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He has also won the Champions League twice. Such is his efficiency, it took him over 15 years to go through a really bad spell. Not many managers, if any, can say that.

Should Chelsea decide to break ties with the Portuguese, whoever they bring in can’t be better, in theory. Mourinho is the best coach for this team and they can count on him to find a solution to this season's problems. Just ask Sir Alex Ferguson, who feels that the Blues would be 'incredibly foolish' if they were to sack Mourinho.

#2 He identifies with the club

Chelsea is dear to Mourinho

Sure, Mourinho attracts unwanted attention sometimes, but that’s what comes with the package. Admittedly, it does make for good entertainment on occasion. While he may not always uphold the Chelsea image that some would want him to, the Portuguese is not just an ordinary manager. He is probably Chelsea's biggest fan and his love for the club is unquestionable.

He is the manager who most identifies with Chelsea and things just don’t feel right when he is not at the helm. This is clearly more than a job to Mourinho. The fact that he holds Chelsea so dear to his heart means that he will try to do whatever it takes to get them out of this rut.

Despite the poor run, it would be a real shame if the Blues were to lose Mourinho again. Being who he is, he should be given exclusive consideration from the board. After all, the Special One deserves special treatment.

#3 The supporters love him

Chelsea fans haven't turned on Mourinho yet

By now, fans of any other club would have already turned on the manager. Chelsea fans, however, will stick by their gaffer as long as his name is Jose Mourinho. A huge percentage of Blues supporters still want him at the club in spite of what they are going through right now.

The Portuguese is adored at Stamford Bridge and it is evident. Fans chant his name no matter what the score is and will stand up for the Special One at some point during every home game. Their unwavering support for him is amazing given the way things are going, and even Mourinho admits to being embarrassed when his name echoes around the ground.

“We like to play at Stamford Bridge, the fans are being unbelievable,” he said.

“I even feel a little bit unsure how to react when they sing my name and I feel a bit embarrassed because I do not know how to react.”

Sacking Mourinho will not go down well with the majority. Abramovich should keep that in mind if he intends to terminate Mourinho's contract.

#4 The players are \'betraying\' him

Mourinho Training
Mourinho's instructions haven't been adhered to this season

There is no doubt that Mourinho is doing exactly what he should be doing as a coach. He does all he can with training sessions, video replays and team preparation, but he just isn’t getting the right response from the team in every game.

“My players got all that information in training in the last three days and in four types of situations that I identified, they conceded the first and the second goals,” Mourinho said after losing 2-1 to Leicester City on Monday.

Watching the match, it was clear that the players didn’t show up. They were completely outclassed by the Foxes, they brought no energy and simply did not seem to even want a win.

Eden Hazard seemed quite keen on getting off the pitch after being fouled by Jamie Vardy. We have all seen the Belgian get on with the game having suffered worse challenges, but on Monday, he decided that he couldn’t continue, to everyone’s amazement.

While Mourinho is partly responsible for Chelsea’s form, the players are the ones who should shoulder most of the blame. They are letting everyone down, and sadly, Mourinho might be the one who pays for it.

#5 Chelsea have to consider the long term view

Mourinho can deliver titles if Chelsea persist with him

We don’t know exactly what took place between Mourinho and Abramovich before the manager was reinstated, but one could imagine that Mourinho would not have agreed to come back to Chelsea if he wasn’t given certain guarantees. The Portuguese was offered another four-year contract at the beginning of the season, which showed that the club was trying to turn away from the impatient manner in which they dealt with coaches and usher in a new era of stability.

Well, that could all go down the drain if Mourinho is fired this season – or even the next. The Chelsea board had a long-term plan in mind when they brought him back, and it does not make much sense firing him at this point.

In addition, Mourinho will be entitled to a very large payout if he is terminated. While Chelsea's deep coffers can take the hit, a recent streak of profitable years mean the club will probably make a fiscally sound decision.

Chelsea's best option would be to stick with him and see how things turn out. If they were to get rid of him now, whoever comes in as his replacement will eventually suffer the same fate and the frustrating policy of hiring and firing – after a season or two – would surely resurface.
