"Alvaro Morata, he comes from sunny Spain, he is better than Harry Kane." This the chant that Chelsea fans used to sing when he was scoring goals at the start of the season. But since the end of December, he has found it very hard to score goals.
When Chelsea signed him at the start of the season as a replacement for Diego Costa, it raised many eyebrows and there were fears that it was unwise to do so. Those fears are turning out to be true and Chelsea seem to have made a huge mistake by trusting him.
Such was his woeful form that winter signing Oliver Giroud managed to displace him in the starting line up for Chelsea's crucial games. With all being said, Chelsea are already looking for new forwards and they could very well replace him in the starting line nest season
Here's a look at 5 strikers who could replace Morata at Chelsea in the summer:
#5 Timo Werner
The German burst onto the scene with RB Leipzig last season, scoring 21 goals in 32 appearances. He also scored 2 goals against Bayern Munich last season.
At the age of 22 he has plenty to offer and if Chelsea sign him, Antonio Conte can definitely improve him as a player. Many considered him to be a one season wonder, but he has again proved the critics wrong by scoring 18 goals this season.
His style of play is similar to Leicester City's Jamie Vardy - who uses his energy to constantly put defenders under pressure. He is also good at making runs behind the defenders. The Germen is also capable of creating a chance for himself with his link-up play. Overall he is a very talented player and will be a good singing for Chelsea.
The Blues are likely to face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for the forward, if they decide to go for him.
#4 Ciro Immobile
The former Dortmund striker is currently going through a renaissance period in his career. After a promising start with Torino in Itlay, he moved to Dortmund and then Sevilla. In 2016, he came back to Italy with Lazio and hasn't looked back since then.
He has scored 34 goals for Lazio this season. Last season, he scored 26 goals for the Italian club and at the age of 28, he is set to reach the peak of his career.
The Italian is a very good finisher when given chances and is very dangerous around the box and with time, he is getting very difficult to play against. It should also be considered that in an ultra-tactical and highly defensive league like Serie A, he has managed to score more than 20 goals for two consecutive seasons.
He should be a good signing for Chelsea considering he has already played under Conte for the Italian National Team.
#3 Mario Balotelli
The former AC Milan striker initially joined Manchester City, where he had disciplinary problems and was constantly in the news for his on-field and off-field incidents.
He again made a return to the premier league with Liverpool but failed to make a mark at Liverpool and returned to Milan on loan next season.
Since his move to the French outfit - Nice, Mario Balotelli has revived his career. In 31 appearances he has scored 22 goals for the club. Recently Nice's President revealed that without European football, they might not be able to keep hold of the Italian.
Balotelli would be a good fit for Chelsea considering his past Premier League experience and his age of just 27. Also, Balotelli will be out of contract next season and will be relatively easy to poach.
There is no doubt that Balotelli is a quality player and now he seems to have become a matured player as well. During his time in Manchester, he has shown that when at his best it is very difficult to stop him.
#2 Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski's name is enough to strike fear in the hearts of the opponents. The Polish international has been one of the most consistent strikers in the word football for the last few years.
His record in Germany with Dortmund and Bayern is absolutely amazing. He is a complete No.9 - his hold play is fantastic, good physical strength, impressive aerial ability and terrific off-the-ball movement.
Forget Morata, the Bayern Munich striker is very much capable of replacing any striker in world football right now in any team.
If reports are believed to be true then Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign him, though they are likely to face competition from Real Madrid and Manchester United.
#1 Mauro Icardi
The Inter Milan captain has been one of the best strikers in the Serie A for quite sometime now. This season, unsurprisingly, he has scored 22 goals in 26 apperances for the Nerazzurri.
He has been a great leader for the Italian club on the pitch and season by season, he has improved his game despite Inter's lack of progress over the years. At the age of 25, he has plenty to offer.
The heart of matter is that Chelsea have already made a €63 million bid for the former Barcelona youth academy player. Also this is not for the first time that Chelsea are being linked to him.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are also some other clubs in him. But Chelsea seem favourites to sign him and he is bound to be be a great signing for the club.
