#3 Chelsea
Chelsea, who have a strong midfield, are among the favourites to win the Premier League this season. They have already tasted success under Thomas Tuchel by winning the Champions League last season.
Most of the attention has been aimed at Chelsea's acquisition of striker Romelu Lukaku this summer. The Belgian superstar, who has arrived at the club after two world-class seasons with Inter Milan, is a player who guarantees goals. Chelsea had some issues at the no.9 position last season, and Lukaku is expected to solve that.
In midfield, Chelsea have two of the best players in the world - Jorginho and N'Golo Kante. Croatia international Mateo Kovacic is an incredible option to have.
Chelsea also signed Spaniard Saul Niguez on loan from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day to boost their midfield. Mason Mount is a sensational player who drifts between midfield and attack, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek could get some minutes in midfield as well.
#2 Manchester City
In midfield metronome Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City have one of the best players in the game at the moment.
The Belgium international has had some injury issues in recent months. But Manchester City's £106 million signing of Jack Grealish should reduce the creative burden on De Bruyne. Grealish is an attacking player, but Pep Guardiola could potentially utilise him in midfield on a regular basis.
Ilkay Gundogan was the club's top goalscorer in the league last season. The German has quietly done an excellent job since joining the club in 2016. Rodri and Fernandinho are both top-quality defensive midfielders, while Phil Foden is seen by many as both England's present and future.
#1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid might be light in several areas, but their midfield is arguably the best in Europe right now.
The quality of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos is well-known, as the duo has been key to Los Blancos' success in the last decade. Meanwhile, Casemiro has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in the game. The young Federico Valverde has also produced some excellent performances.
Real Madrid signed the prodigious Eduardo Camavinga on deadline day for nearly £28 million from Rennes. The 18-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the game at the moment.
