Wenger the player
Wenger was introduced to football around the age of six-seven, and was a regular at football games in Germany. He reportedly had a soft corner for Borussia Mönchengladbach and his father doubled up as the village team coach. Wenger represented FC Duttlenheim, a local football club at the age of 12 as a defender-sweeper. He continued his youth career at Mutzig, a third division club. He graduated to the senior team in 1969, persisting with the team till 1973.
He then joined Mulhouse, studying alongside his aforementioned degree, playing 56 games for them. After two seasons, he came to amateur club ASPV Strasbourg. 3 seasons later, Wenger joined RC Strasbourg and playing his first game against AS Monaco. In 1981, Wenger wrapped his career as a player up, playing a total of 67 games, scoring 4 times, all of which he scored for Mulhouse.
